As Andyman says, the CarpForum logo is the home button.
I decided not to add a specific button for home as there's quite a lot of links/buttons to choose from on the top of most pages and another button would clutter it up even more. The logo is bigger and easier to hit (with mouse on computer or finger on phone) than a little home button would be π
I will get around to neatening up the Messages toolbar soon. Tonight probably ... unless I accidentally notice that the tides are good for the river during darkness π

I normally now click on the carp logo in the top left corner, it does the same thing

On the old site when I replied to a post I just hit the home button to go back to the start.
Now I have to hit the back button (using my phone) to get back to the home page.
Is there easy fix for this ?

I wrote this last night.
It runs on the homepage (Forums.asp) and every 60 seconds it goes back to the server and asks if there's any new posts
Google will not allow a website to refresh a page which has Google Ads on it so so this has needed to be a Premium feature

If I were to add it to the Messages page I think it would need to be conditional. If you had 20 new posts to read and the page refreshed halfway through reading it would be annoying

Thanks for letting me know about the inconvenience. I don't get time to test all settings on all devices etc etc so I rely on feedback so these things get found faster and I can fix them quicker π π

I have added an option to the Settings page for you (well everyone!) mate.
It defaults to 15 (old setting) but you can up it to 25, 50, 100 or All.
This is now in place and I just gave it a test and it appears to work.
Let me know if you find any issues and I'll get them fixed
Right, back to fending off Asian hackers....I've been watching them trying to get into CarpForum for a few hours and failing. Few more bits of logging and restrictions to do and I can move onto something more exciting - like image uploads.

Good spot. I programmed the Message page to try and confine images to the width available. This was in the hope to stop the image from bursting out of the message column.
I had not applied the same rules to the Profile page which you noticed.
I have applied it now though, so another bug fixed. Thanksπ π

Top right click on your profile name

Post ordering
Newest posts first
This will show newest at the top if wanted..... with all the other changes, maybe now's a good time to swap over if wanted lol
However, I certainly get the idea of refreshing with the original post first

Hi Karl, must admit I donβt like change and when I logged in the other day and was greeted by the new site, I instantly hated it and was inwardly seething. I saw that you mentioned the old site was still available, but Iβve resisted the temptation and stuck with the new one and now Iβve grown to love it!! Massive well done for your ongoing efforts ππ».
Just one thing, my biggest bugbear, which has bothered me for a long while, is the βonly 15 posts per pageβ thing. Really bugs me having to scroll down to post 15 just to get to the βread all pagesβ tab, then the whole thread reloads and sends you back to the top, at which point the βjump to new postsβ tab actually works. If I hit the βjump to new postsβ tab whilst on page 1, it just sends me to the bottom of page 1. I always have oldest posts (eg post 1) at top of page and not even sure if there is an option for newest posts to show first, not that I would want that, as Iβm so used to viewing threads this way. I like to refresh myself with the original post on a thread before deciding if I want to read the new posts or not, if that makes sense?

Yep the burger box is there and search does show in there, not sure if I missed search there earlier or you've added it since lol, but it's plenty good enough.
Bug maybe, but when browsing through someones, my recent posts, the post width is not forced to wrap to fit the screen with the ads on the side, so my recent posts with the pics below stretch across behind the ads on the right. In this thread they are fit to the screen space so show fine
In case it helps..... ignore the red circling that is in the pic from earlier but look behind the ads on the right
Edit - I changed the width on the earlier posts to 900 and it the fits with the ads to the right when looking through my last posts and still fits when just browsing this thread. I presume maybe you've got a scaling setting in the threads but maybe not set in the post history?
Edit 2 - The scaling of pics work fine on the new site but the example pic below for example (as I've left it for showing what I mean) does blow out on the old site too. I know we used to prefer a width=500 on the old site, so maybe we stick with adding a width so both sites stay looking ok?

That whole tools area is a bit of a mess at the moment, do you get the hamburger menu (the 3 horizontal lines)
If so, everything in the Account dropdown and the Tools dropdown is repeated in there.
When I get to it, I will neaten that lot up so that mobile just has the burger menu to save space (with all links/options in there) and for users surfing on bigger screens the Tools / Account drop downs will be there (and no hamburger menu as there is right now)
I've just got emails working on the server...onwards and upwards.
What new features/functions do you guys want to see?
Or what old features/functions (that may have broken?) do you want to see back?

The new search page looks great on the mobile site along with all the options again, nicely done.
Tools doesn't show in portrait phone mode but the magnifying glass is there ok

I've added the search magnifying glass to the mobile version of the site.
You can click that and it will take you to the search page so you can start your sleuthing...
You'll need to choose your options before hitting search (e.g. change it to message mode)
I also put a link to the Search page in the Tools menu

There is a "search box" on the old carpforum home page, but not on the new carpforum home page.
I prefer the way the old one works although the layout needs a tweek.

If you use the main "search the forum" box right at the top of the screen it definitely searches in posted comments of threads rather than just the titles that the little box at the top of the thread section seems to do. This smaller box to be fair is called "search topics".

I have put some help text at the top of the PM page to direct users to the old site and old PMs.
Hope that helps.
So as not to annoy 'converts' to the new PM system I have made the 'info card' collapsible to get it out of the way once you've read it.
I can remove the 'info card' fully in the future, once people are all over onto the new system π

I could add them there, but everyone listed is with the 10min cut off...so everyone would be green or peachy.
I used to find the colours handy whilst surfing the Topics/Messages, just spotting if someone is/was recently online can be useful...only realised I had overlooked adding that once the site had gone live. Added now though, along with quite a few changes today

The usernames on WhosOnline don't have the colours.
I can add them, but on that page you can see when they last clicked/viewed a page etc
I might add it though, I'll go review and make a knee jerk decision π

Whos online shows arrival times and last active times so no colours there
On mobile long click chrome, click the little info icon, storage, clear cache.
This won't clear cookies or logon data etc.

I'm not sure how to clean a browser cache on mobile, at least without clearing cache for all sites (meaning cookies gone and logged out everywhere π‘)
On PC you can Control-F5 in your browser to force the refresh.
I might be able to tweak the code to force a CSS refresh, I'll try now - I had a go, hopefully that will have helped!? π

Out of interest, what browser do you use?
I'm using chrome on phone and tablet and all looks ok in both modes to me.
In fact i really like dark mode on the tablet, I'll stick with it for now π
Is it the names or the pics that are black? I've just noticed that most profiles now have no pictures showing when looking at who's online

Thanks mate, lots of tweaks to do to get it nearer to perfect, but now I have put my programming hat back on hopefully I can get some new features written.
As you may/not remember I used to work for Friday-Ad many moons ago, a classified advertising paper...and as Development Manager I wrote/oversaw the programming team - so I am thinking of creating a proper Classified part to the site with image upload by the user, possibly a library of stock photos in case you want to use them (they would of course be labelled as a stock photo) and also make it searchable by keyword and browsable by brand/make or by genre.
There's quite a few tackle trading sites out there and whilst they serve a purpose they've never really excited me.
Also, a venues section. I wrote it 25+ years ago for the UK but dropped it when I let my original website (www.UKCarp.net) fade away when CarpForum was born. Venues for info (don't worry Wandle, not for booking a'la Swimbooker)

Most pages are actually faster now, I optimised a lot of the SQL so that multiple functions per page were done in one call.
Feel free to send in any ideas for features you want. It's only once every 25years I am in the mood for doing some programming π

You can still use the old site to get to old PMs.
You can even use it to read and write topics/messages still, basically we now have 2 different websites running off of the same database

The only section of the site which is not forwards/backwards compatible is the PM system. The new PM system is far superior as you'll see once you get used to it. No need for a sent box as your PM conversation is basically a 2 person topic.
Anyone needs to see it, send me a PM asking for a reply....or tell me what you DON'T like about the new styling and I will see if I can make it better for you.

Yeah, which is why the task has never been done before...I have either been too busy fishing, shooting or getting divorced (depending which era of the last 25 years we look at  )
I've been wanting to do it all that time but never had the motivation.
If ANY users of the site have any ideas of
a) what would be a better way to do things on here
b) bits to hide / demote as they are used so infrequently
c) new feature ideas (e.g. favourite Topics can be a list or dropdown on the homepage...which is something I sort of added a while back, but they only show when there's a new post in that Topic)
d) etc etc

Yes mate, if I don't fish tonight I might get the Topic list and Message pages sketched out, see how they look.
Also that page was a quick draft so needs to be tidied up and space used better
e.g. I don't need loads of space wasted with the big wording across the centre "CarpForum - The UK Carp Fishing Forum" and I should get a proper logo in place rather than the lift'n'shift use of the current one with nasty rectangular background.
The site will continue to run in it's current form, but new versions of pages will hopefully be developed quite quickly and run in parallel for anyone wishing to use the new design.
I need to question everything that's currently shown, I think there will be lots of little icons/options rendered (for example icons in the profile box to the left of this message) which RARELY get used. I can still make the options available but in a neater more modern way.
View profile could be under the users profile pic (which could be top right for example) and once you click it you go to your profile and there are options to edit it, change password, turn off mailing list etc etc (btw, some trivia in 25 years of the site running I have never sent out a single email to the mailing list...)

It's not very mobile friendly (sorry!)
I am happy to do this and have in fact just had a very quick bash at doing a responsive (as it's called in development circles) page which will respond (as the name suggests) to different screen widths.
Also, top right is a dark mode button π

Got to admit my phones in dark mode all the time when searching and if available on sites. I hate glare even on the lowest setting in the dark, I find it gives me eye strain even on the lowest brightness setting with adaptive turned off...to the point I have to turn it off as my eyes start weeping.

Sorry if this has been suggested, I couldn't find anything with the search function.
Is it possible to have a dark mode for the forum?
I often browse using my phone in the evening.
Unless someone knows of an alternative way, I have a Google Pixel 5, the settings are already on Dark Mode which works for apps etc.
