Lake I fished for years was 80’ in places, margins to 20’ was productive most of the year but this time of year onwards 30-40’ was best. It fished well much later into the year than other lakes but took ages getting going again in Spring!
They don’t know it’s deep.

Cheers for the advice! The last lake I fished was about 25ft in the very middle (which I thought was deep!) But 40ft seems to be blowing my mind!😂

I'd fish my rods from shallow to deeper water in whatever increments of depth you prefer, maybe 3-4' until you find the depth/temp the fish prefer, and that will change depending on time of year and sometimes even water input 👍

As it's a farm reservoir I'd imagine it'll be muddy and fairly featureless, bubbling & clouding is my go to unless they are actually showing and fishing the margin ledge for starters.
Weather still fantastically warm so you maybe in luck with fish still very active, they still have to feed regardless of depths & time of year.
Good luck with it.

In reply to Post #3 I hear you - but have never found this to be th case in the deep waters I have fished. The trouble with depths and seeing fish is the distance they are away from your hookbait - I fished a bloody hole in the ground years ago and didn’t see anyone catch anything further than a Rod length out, and the lake was fairly easy and doubles and singles.
THe one lake I fish now with near 40ft depth is a gravel pit and so has enough depth change to work out where they may feed after the deep water aerobatics. Absolutely no help at all but without any significant depth changes I wouldn’t have a clue. Logic says that they are obviously feeding as they have no choice so can only go off other anglers or I would go for light light leads and naked chods with the top bead set way up in the weed.
The trouble with Deep lakes for me is the pure volume of water and in my head acreage and water volume present the same challenges -

Same as anywhere else mate. Fish where you see the carp.

In reply to Post #1 Not in the winter yet, but this year I’ve been on a deep (50ft) very weedy water. Like you I’ve never fished anywhere that deep before, so it took a while to get my head around it. Most fish I’ve caught have been in 12-16ft a few rod lengths out, with suitable rigs to cope with the weed. The deepest fish I had was 25ft.

Evening,
I've just managed to get a new winter ticket starting 1st Nov, (I've never seen the lake) But it's about 8 acres with about 100 carp present to upper 40, quite a few 30's but I know little about it. It's a irrigation farm res but even with the levels being lower than usual it's nearly 40ft deep in the middle (quite weedy in places).
I've never fished a lake this deep and zigs are banned... I guess first of all I will go and try and spend some time with the marker but I'm sure I'll end up fishing the margins as I've never fished a lake anywhere near this deep before. I want to try and fish it as much as possible but it gets too cold and shuts up shop for the winter.
Any advice for fishing a lake this deep?
I'm hoping if all goes well I'll get offered a ticket next April.
Cheers, Barry🙏
