Can't beat a handful of sweetcorn in the winter and a small yellow pop up or wafter.

In reply to Post #23 Quote: If you've been using Bug, I'd stick with it and drop down to 12mm and 15mm baits.
Hmm, I like the idea of 12 mm.....combined with some crushed 20's, maybe.

In reply to Post #22 If you've been using Bug, I'd stick with it and drop down to 12mm and 15mm baits.
I had a good winter using those sizes as I was able to bait the swims from the far margin and plop / scatter the small bait in whatever density/amount I wanted š

In reply to Post #2 Just to add to the confusion (or mine anyway) I have been using DNA Bug all year, but in 20 mm. I have confidence in the baitā¦.butā¦20 millārsā¦in the winter? In my head Iād be wanting to drop down a size or at least cut them in half or more. Am I being overly dramatic and thinking too muchā¦or not thinking enough š
Perhaps fish it as crumb in a bag with a wafter(that I have had soaking in liquid since April!)š

In reply to Post #1 Perhaps any nut based bait (eg Sticky Manilla) but in reality I've never done particularly well on any . . .if you are going to fish winters (why, I've no idea) I would say its perhaps more important to keep trickling in whatever you've already been feeding previously throughout the season and to keep the bait going in, rather than randomly switching to something you never really use / have actual faith in . . .you could go balls deep and create an expensive John Baker Supermilk but again, you're probably opening an unnecessary can of worms (pardon the pun!)

The original frozen Richworth Tutties really were a great bait all year round. I used to fish singles over Mainline's Grange bait.
Every fishmeal bait I've used over the past few decades has worked over winter.

In reply to Post #15 The best readily available winter bait? I reckon a Richworth Tutti would take some beating, assuming they're still the same?
Years ago, and someone did mention the word Decades earlier. Fook me I'm young!
In the last century we were walking around Farlows and it was bitter. Icy cold the water.
We found a mid twenty sitting under the Snags, left of the Sunset and in front of Goose Green.
My mate had a few Tuttis in his pockets and was breaking them up a bit and dripping bits in. Once Mr Twenty realised he started taking the bits on the drop. Amazing in crystal clear water!

In reply to Post #17 20% CLO ( IMHO some are much better at binding, and finer in texture for rolling than others )
Very very true! If you can get a consistent size great, otherwise blend your own however you like it from a coarser mix.

In reply to Post #12 My simple guess
40% LT94
20% CLO ( IMHO some are much better at binding, and finer in texture for rolling than others )
20% SEMO
20% VITAMEALO

In reply to Post #3 I've definitely used baits in the summer that just won't get me a bite in the winter. The baits that I have faith in for the winter would almost certainly work in the summer as well, although maybe maybe not as well as my summer baits.

In reply to Post #12 I'd use something like this -
40% Semolina
30% Birdfood
20% Maize Meal
10% Milk Powder
