Just for some context regarding the price.
Probably the best outdoor rucksacks available right now are from Atom Packs. They are hand made in the Lake District using ultralight state of the art water proof materials. They are not fully waterproof but the materials are extremely hard wearing. They’re extremely comfortable and designed for walking hundreds of miles
An off the shelf rucksack will cost £200 - £340.

I tend to use my barrow but many of the lads including Jim the owner carries it on his back for long periods - if you see our socials weve showcased Jim who uses a bike to get round the lake and so travels long stretches fully loaded and weve also done lots of videos explaining about the new harness and how to wear it and adjust it so you can get the most out of the RS

Paying that much for a rucksack that's designed to be used outdoors I would expect the means to make it weatherproof to be included not extras, like someone else said about the rod bag that doesn't have a shoulder strap....
Just my opinion of course.

Been away so just catching up in here
Regards waterproofing the base is waterproof and we do have two additional accessories that attach to the bag
A ground sheet
And a waterproof cover
I brought mine for full price before I was employed by the business and it’s my favourite piece of luggage.
I have the all singing all dancing and I’ve customised it to suit my fishing and I now have one bag that does everything and we are going to be releasing more additional items shortly that will make it even more appealing
Regards comfort - we’ve released multiple videos explaining that we’ve completely changed the harness and have even released a video to show how best to wear the rucksack on our socials if you head to our Facebook or instagram page you’ll see them there

No...no internal pockets with the exception of a zipped mesh pocket on the underside of the top flap, for your keys etc

To waterproof a rucksack or luggage you have to tape the seams. Most fishing rucksacks are made of Cordura type materials for durability but it isn’t possible to tape this material.
Some of the newer nylon fabrics can be taped but most manufacturers don’t do this because there’s quite a lot of practical issues. Specialised waterproof zips need to be used or roll top closures. If water gets in the rucksack it then can’t get out. Due to the bag flexing and delamination the seam tape comes off eventually. Some outdoor manufacturers have started to use welded seams on some bags.
A tarp or nylon sheet is the easiest solution but you can also DWR coat your luggage.

The Korum Ruckbag was like that, I used one for years, only problem was it was bit small at about 35 litres for long sessions, but they did bring a bigger version out. They still do them, but they are a bit different now
Rod Hutchinson also brought out a "Rucksack" like that many years ago which I have, you lay it down and it had two flaps you just unzipped to get inside it, I replaced it with the "Ruckbag" but went back to my "Hutchy" one as it held more.
Plus, I used the NASH cube for years and still do, the large one, and once you opened it up, you just laid the 3 bags down and opened them up.

Having used loads of different rucksacks for various purposes I think a clamshell design with two large side pockets and modular capability, works best for fishing.
With just 3 zippers you can access everything instantly. Top loading rucksacks mean you have to empty everything out just to get to something at the bottom. Also loads of small pockets mean you’re restricted to what will fit in each pocket and you’re forever opening and closing zips.
I’m currently using the latest Nash Scope Ops Recon rucksack. They’ve absolutely nailed it with this design because you can clip everything and anything to it. Therefore it can be expanded or modified to accommodate any type of fishing or session.

Apart from the prices the biggest problem for me with luggage is lack of weatherproofing, I try not to use a barrow when possible so when it rains the fancy luggage ends up sodden & requires days of drying out & if put down where there's a bit of mud it's hardly wipe clean, yes I know I can buy a separate rain cover & groundsheet for the rucksack but if they're needed to keep it reasonably dry & clean why are they extras?
I now use a Vass dry bag type rucksack, it's basic no fancy stuff or add ons but it does keep the contents dry & also wipes clean unfortunately not found a similar type of rod bag so far.
Seems like form over function to me.

It’s bizarre how many people don’t get it right but it makes a massive difference in regards to the comfort levels
We had lots of negative feedback historically regards the comfort of rucksacks and we are convinced The combination of the new harness and wearing it correctly will eradicate that

Have to give Rob the brand manager at CA his due. I've spoken with him today after he pm'd me. Maybe I'm old school but being thanked for being honest about receiving two bags instead of one was quite nice. As is the very kind offer he's made me for doing so.
As I discussed with Rob on the phone, its not just about the quality of the product but the aftercare and customer service that's provided. I'll be very happy to buy more from Cotswold Aquarius in future if I need anything.
Btw, hope this is allowed (?) but if anyone is looking for an original CA stalker bait bucket, I have one like new that's just sitting in the garage. PM me if that's allowed?

I've just replaced my worn out ESP 40l rucksack with the new CA Purist bag. First impressions are it is clearly really well made. I'm not loaded but like to buy the best I can get especially if its supporting British brands, whether design or design and manufacturing.
I rarely carp fish, am primarily a barbel angler and walk as far as I need to get away from anyone 😀 so having a well made, comfortable rucksack is really important for me. I'm used to carrying loads from a previous life and the best rucksack I found to replicate a decent harness was actually the ESP.
Having loaded the bag and tried it on it feels good. Weight fairly high on the upper back. I still have an old CA Pathfinder Specialist rucksack and despite a good layout its probably a better bag for a barrow than carrying..the harness just didn't cut it sadly. The purist is very different though and sits and fits much better on the back. Well done CA for addressing this issue.
I do need to contact them tomorrow though, as I've received two bags from one order!! One from Jag at Luton and one from CA at Halesowen....you'll never make a profit like that guys!!

Im absoloutely loving the new rucksack and rod bag - Both have been great additions and make fishing much easier for me, my rod bag as an example used to house stuff i rarely used in the multiple pockets and I actually used some lightweight velcro straps to pull all the excess tightly (if that makes sense) thats all a thing of the past now with the new rod bag, I was originally concerned how snug the rods sit in but having used it plenty Ive had no issues and it makes sense for it to be snug so there is no movement in treansit
The rucksack is a beast and by far and away my favourite ever piece of luggage oh and looks the part also which we all know helps catch more carp  I love the modular design so I now have a pocket for everything as opposed a bag inside a bag inside a bag
when I look at them side by side compared to the older luggage - the old rod bag feels cumbersome and I would imagine if you saw them side by side it would be hard to disagree
Regards the cool bag I have loads - ridge monkey, Titan, Igloo, Anker fridge and Ive used a pals yeti and having looked at the new cool bags in store and saw them in action (being tested) as per there instagram videos and you just cannot argue by the performance so I wlll be getimng one when they have more in stock
In my opinion the collaboration of Jag and Cotswold is a great match, pioneering british made products they are raising the game with products that were already great and much loved and taking it up a level by refining them and I for one am excited to see whats next

How are you getting on with your new cotswold stuff mate? I see they have just released a new cool bag which, based on their tests, looks class leading and competively priced. How do the rucksacks fare in terms of standing upright when not empty ie: not collapsing in on themselves, which was a criticism of the pre Jag cotswold carryalls/rucksacks?

Ive never seen the new rs rucksack but I bought the new jag/cotswold rh rod holdall and wasnt impressed with it at all. The padding was shocking for the middle rod and didnt like all the webbing straps hanging off it. I sent it straight back and went back to my cotswold link sleeves. Very poor for something costing £265.

The changes Jag have made are a step in the right direction but, for the money (personally I have no issue with paying more for made in UK and am happy to support UK manufacturing), they still need a few improvements and need to be ahead of the competition to justify the higher price point
1. Answer the customers long standing questions - will the material fade significantly in the sun? I appreciate if you leave anything out in direct sunlight for a prolonged period of time you will get some colour deterioration but that should be minimal, given the products are expected to last a ‘lifetime’ under reasonable wear.
2. Create some internal structure so the rucksacks/carryalls don’t fall in on themselves - Korda do this for less than half the price, why can't cotswold?
3. Make the base of rucksack and pockets waterproof - Cotswold previously could do this as part of their bespoke offering - offering the 'groundsheet' as an extra is ok, but the base should have this already
4. Get rid of the internal pockets - no one wants them and they just take up space
5. Personally I would like to see slightly thicker, more protective padding - again Korda’s is better
For £400 (inc extras) I want close to perfect, a few tweaks and it would be - until then I'm sticking with Korda Compac
Jag are uniquely placed to shake things up at this end of the market - I would also love to see a Jag/Cotswold Lightweight Bedchair with Jag manufacturing, Cotswold materials and a proper integrated SIM rather than this uber heavy memory foam nonsense and also a Brolly system

I hope they have redesigned these rucksacks as ca are the most uncomfortable out there never spoke to anyone that finds them good and as for buying a carryall that you pay extra for it to be stiffened there like using a carrier bag I think there prices are ridiculous
speero luggage is far better design and value for money imo

In essence its a stripped down version with less molle options almost the same as what the vulpine was so the principle still applies to me - if youre not likely to use the modular side then go for that one and if you are then go for the all singing all dancing option
or if your likely to add and add again as I have see pics below of the additional bags ive added at the front which this new stripped back version doesnt have
I sold my vulpine when the new one launched as it works much better for me personally

DO you mean the vulpine (which the new one has superseeded) I had the old vulpine and upgraded to the new one, Id suggest the vulpine is suited to anglers who dont need the modular attachments molle webbing etc so it makes sense to me - Im loving mine still its a beast of a bag with all the extras - I have two brew tubes - two side pockets, front pocket as extras and I have the new rod bag with a couple of pouches that I keep hook sharpener and leads in the other
The new one is miles more comfortable when used as a rucksack as well compared to previous models an issue that had been reoccuring with the rucksacks
Basically they are catering for everyone no different to a tempest brolly is geared to short sessions and the tempest 150 is for the angler who takes more kit and wnats more room

side pocket pouches
large front pocket pouch
couple of the small pouches
The rain cover
The groundsheet
Not sure how to post pics but ill happily send whatsapp if anyone wants to see mine in action
I actually used the groundsheet on the weekend when the floor was wet and have to say I was very pleased with it, nice and small, stores away neatly and its functional
Ultimately a carrier bag would have served the same purpose and so if its not for you dont buy it!!!!!

Expensive things usually come with a great after service and thats my experience with CA and Jag - My old cotswold luggage is at least 6 years old, I have a mk3 rucksack, various food/camera bags etc I also have a vulpine rucksack which I used before the new one huge tear in it (my fault) they repaired it free of charge, I had zips and a rip on an outer pocket of my rod holdall again repaiored free of charge - Years ago I had an issue with my super compact pod AGAIN jag sorted it free of charge - the reality of all of this is that people love to moan on forums the facts remain its your money, your choice !!!

I ended up going to prolite explorer and the lads there were ace as always and I walked away with the new rucksack and a load of accessories, can't wait to use it and it's miles more comfortable on the back compared to my vulpine or mk3 roamer rucksack
I'll report back after a few outings but the modular concept is ace and i can get everything from my mk3 which is much bigger inside it when packed well then add on thwe extras if im session fishing
Ps only two small internal pockets on this as well compared to the old ones which is miles better

Ive got loads of cotswold luggage my dpm must be well over 6 years old now and still going strong, had an issue with a vulpine rucksack that ripped and it was sent away repaired for free and returned promptly, Im sure there is other stuff out there and I hear good things about speero but in essence all manufacturers just copy one another in my opinion very little innovation in my opinion its the same across fishing Beds 2 leg, 3 leg, 4 leg, sleep system, lumber bar, memory foam, bivvys prime example - pram hood then tempest design, barrows are the same etc etc etc
As mentioned Jamie and the team are british made and so the costs are understandbly more in my experience its built to last, do I need more luggage no, will I buy it more than likely

It's an expensive bit of kit. It's well made, has a lifetime warranty and made in UK. That comes at a premium. Some people pay 3k for a baitboat. Some pay £2k for a ticket each year. I personally wouldn't buy either of those. It's horses for courses.
For a bit of balance. They sold out their entire stock in one day and they literally can't make them fast enough. So whilst it seems few on here would buy one. Out in the real world. Many many people are.
There's price bands in every part of carp angling. I wouldn't pay £13 for a kilo of boilies, but I wouldn't pay £3 either. But obviously plenty of people do. At least this is keeping people employed in a UK factory in an industry that's been largely outsourced to China.

Does anyone know the weight of the Cotswold rucksack?
I can't seem to find it anywhere which is a red flag in this price bracket. If you're paying £200 for a rucksack it should be made from ultralight material.
Also, the deeper you make a rucksack the further the weight is pushed away from your back at the shoulder level. This tilts the pack at an angle which causes more pressure on the shoulder straps as the weight is leaning away from the shoulders and this then causes the bottom of the pack to dig in to the lower back.

I've found my speero uncomfortable when I've used the clip-on bags, but in it's defence I think I'd overloaded it & it would probably have been uncomfortable no matter what backpack I was using.
Still using it, though I kind of wish I'd gone for the compact over the full-size. Just to help me keep it light & comfortable

All of the larger speero bags are padded so definitely dont fold in on themselves. I dont use any fishing rucksack from any tackle company as Ive found everyone ive owned to be uncomfortable including speero which is why I only use carryalls. Ive never had an issue with any zip and ive probably got a dozen speero bags/pouches. Maybee you have just been unlucky as never heard of anyone else having issues and its very popular.

Should have added, this is based on using a couple of hundred quids worth of their stuff:
1 X compac rucksack
2 X modular add ons
1 x modular bait carryall
The trakker nxg 55l rucksack for 65 quid, not perfect but works a whole lot better than the Speero stuff

The military grade (lol) zips don't open/close one handed, fabric is very flappy so collapses in (especially when wrestling with a zip) and it's very uncomfortable when on your back when walking any distance especially if you add the clip on things to it.

When I bought my trident rod holdall nearly 20 years ago quality wise it was a cut above what else was available and I'm sure the price I paid was half of what they are today.
I have the thinking anglers rucksack which I purchased for the rivers.
It's slightly smaller and half the price.
I think this is too expensive considering the choice we have today.

Really fancied one until i saw the price. Like the modular way bits can attach on. Got the Speero compact rucksack for that reason and think it's horrible on my back. Might try a ESP 40l quickdraw one instead.

Hahaa...exactly the same, me and a mate bought the deceptor thinking the'yd be ace and they were a right pain, completely unfolded they took up and entire bivvy.
I also had the Vulcan rucksack and the original Roamer one, all horrendous on your back and just not great quality. I felt the same with the various carryalls i had from Cotswold, floppy sided, as soon as you took stuff out they collapsed on themselves. Zips were pretty poor but that was a lot to do with the floppy sides and pockets
I've spend thousands on Cotswold kit over the years and the only things i still own are their rod lead straps and a bespoke brolly bag from about 15 years ago.

The cotswold deceptor rucksack i had was £220 and that was probably 7 years ago. Couldnt carry it on your back as it hurt and you could never find anything as it had so many pockets and i could never remember what was in each pocket so constantly going through all the pockets to find the thing i wanted.

Made in the UK. You have to pay for that. It doesn't necessarily make it any better but it does make it more expensive. There is probably more profit in a £90 Speero bag made in China than a £250 bag made here.

Its over £400 if you add the pouches that are shown on the one in the video. The basic rucksack is £200. I use cotswold and speero luggage and have done for years and i personally think my speero gear is better made and better thought out and less than half the price. The speero material seems to be identical to my cotswold gear as well.

I had the same reaction, yet seems like they sold a lot on the first day nonetheless.
Considering the equivalent TA/Trackker/ESP bags it seems a lot and nothing too revolutionary on it.

Been using army surplus bergens and day packs for donkeys years. Add whatever size Molle packs you want. Seem to last forever and nothing wears out.

With one of all the additional extras they sell for it, the total price comes in at £415....
They do look a great piece of kit, but for that money id rather invest in something that can actually improve my chances of catching and have a cheaper storage alternative.
