Thanks for all the replies chaps it really is very helpful. As a newbie boat angler it can be quite confusing but you've all made it alot more easier to get to grips with. Thank you everyone 🙏

I've had a bison 55lb motor for a number of years and never had any issues with it. The only reason I changed was because the handle didn't fold down during transport. I'd previously used that motor on lakes up to 9,000 acres without an issue. Powered by 100ah lead acid leisure batteries.
Recently moved over to the Nash 65lb motor and gone to 100ah lithium batteries to reduce weight and increased battery life.
If its your first outboard you can't go wrong with Bison or the Haswing Osapian, although you'd have to swap out the ternminal connections for crocodile clips with the Haswing. The Fox motors aren't bad either.
You defo don't need to be spending £400-£600 on a Minn Kota

And something to charge the battery with especially if you do get lifepo4 that should use a different charger than lead acid batteries

Some great tips there guys so thank you....bit of techno mong so getting my head around volts and amps etc lol. The Bison 40 looks good enough for what I need.

I’ve had a 55lb bison for years. It’s my second one. The first one lasted 8 or 9 years and my current one is still going strong after 10 years. They’re pretty good tbh and a nut and bolt copy of a Minn Kota Endura 50, even the rotary switches are identical. Pushes a 13’ Orkney Spinner around 300 acre reservoirs well enough. I just carry 2x 75ah leisure batteries (lead acid) and use one as a power bank when I get to my swim with croc clips on a car cigarette lighter socket. I can’t justify the cost of the lithium batteries, although I wish I could afford them as they’re so much lighter.

I’ve had a couple of eco-worthy batteries and they have been spot on. Victron chargers also good. My set up ended up as ………. 1 man
Ecoworthy - 100ah 12v
Bison battery box - v2
Victron charger - 12/20 - blue smart - 230v
Air nrg 6000, 16 psi integral battery - boat pump
Minn kota traxxis 45
All decent kit and been bulletproof over last 3 years. Not done any huge huge waters but it’s been spot on for cassien and similar

There's a conversation in here already about lifepo4 batteries, this is your best option for a battery, lighter, better life, more useable time from it etc.
For a small boat like that I suspect at 40lb thrust brushless motor will be plenty and maybe even get lower but someone else may correct me on this as my use is limited on these. I think my mate has a 20lb or something on his 180 and it moves plenty fast enough really.

Purchased an ultimate 180 boat which I'm super happy with. At the moment I'm happy just rowing about etc ..so my question is what outboard and battery should I be looking at? I'm not remotely techy 😂 so simple advice would be much appreciated. Happy to spend a few hundred quid on both items.
