Loved the first two books. Starting with a virtually blank piece of paper it felt like you were sharing the adventure as so little was known about those great mystery waters.

Nothing famous about these times Neil, as you say, just another bunch’s of mongs trying to be famous… for what … it’s dead 💀

In the current time of tik tok ****ers and wannabees, tossers of no substance trying to be famous (ish) , the passing of a true angler is more poignant than ever.
In the overall scheme of things I have no idea if Pete was a Titan of industry, a scion of high finance or a pillar of society.
What I do know was that he was a pioneer of his time in the carping world, we could look up to him and his efforts. We had the chance to emulate this and quite frankly we then ****ed it up big style to what it has become today.
Rest in peace fellow angler. You showed the way. We were too stupid to follow it.

I believe it was Rob Maylin who christened Pete, Sir. Think it sort of stuck. Probably a lot more deserved than some of those hereditary waste of space out there..😀

Very sad indeed a proper legend in every sense .
The best interview style podcast ever is the thinking tackle one on you tube with pete and Ritchie mac..2 parter around 4 hours of 2 legendary anglers reminiscing and chewing the fat.
Think I'll watch it again now.
Not many would attempt to catch fish on floaters in every month in a calendar year..pete done it twice

Very true, i do somewhat baulk at the "sir". He's just a bloody good fisherman , and by all accounts a thoroughly nice guy.. I'm Not deffering to anyone who hasnt been knighted by the crown , and there's plenty of them who deserve it less a bloody good fisherman who did it before it became " easy " full respect. Rip Mr Springate I respect you fully for what you di d for yourself and the promotion of our sport ..
