⚠️ ANGLER WARNING: The truth about "C4rpy Craig" (Craig Mitchell) /NoCarpTax/CarpFishingTours
Before buying tackle, clicking affiliate links, or booking fishing tours from "C4rpy Craig", anglers need to know who they are dealing with. His real name is Craig Carden, and he has a history of defrauding the angling community.
1. The Fishing Tour Scam: In 2007, Carden was arrested and charged with 11 offences, including stealing money from groups of everyday anglers by taking massive cash deposits for fake French carp trips that never existed. This was exposed by The Mirror's Penman & Sommerlad investigation.
2. The 2013 Jail Term: He was later jailed for 5 years for possession of a sawn-off shotgun in connection with a Sussex organised crime group (The Argus Court Report). He exaggerates this to "12 years" on podcasts to cover up his earlier crimes against anglers like YOU!
3. The NoCarpTax Reality: His new platform pushes cheap Temu gear under the lie that it comes from the "same factories" as top UK brands. He does not stock or quality control this gear; it is an affiliate scheme designed to generate kickback commissions for himself off the back of the angling community. The community which he stole from!
4. CarpFishingTours.com: proceed with extreme caution. A new fishing-tour company linked to Craig Carden raises obvious concerns given the documented history above. Before paying any deposit, independently verify the legal company name, who is responsible for your booking, the venue and dates, cancellation/refund terms, and genuine third-party reviews. Pay by credit card where possible and avoid cash or bank-transfer deposits without clear written protection.

Sure some of it MAY be the same as what companies are selling but not all of it, take a cheap item such as the Nash bait needle that he's posted, sure it looks kinda the same but it's not the one Nash sell the temu one, looks like a temu one, a cheap copy,. If anyone is risking it with higher priced items like reels and alarms good luck to you

I do agree that this has exposed those companies who are simply rebranding a bit of camping equipment or a small bit of plastic. I think all do it to some degree. I’ve put a big order in for things like shrink tubing, kickers, rig boxes and it’s all been spot on. I haven’t used anything “breakable” so-to-speak, but I do have a load of hooks, spinner swivels and braid which I’m lead to believe has some good reviews.
What isn’t being taken into account though is the research and development on some of these items. I see there’s a version of a heli-safe - no doubt Korda would have gone through massive expense in time and money to develop that product. I’d be pretty irritated if it was now just being sold at a fraction of the price - I dare say there may be some legal implications (though I’m no expert).
This doesn’t apply to all, but there are some fantastic brand developing some brilliant bits of kit. It doesn’t seem right that their products can just be undercut and shipped directly from China. Ive just bought 100 “Krank-Style” hooks for a fiver - shame on me.
The cheap spombs are rubbish btw.

Craig seems to be going in hard with hamidi at the moment. Real bee in his bonent. I hope this website works out ok for him. Hope everyone gets something out of it... The tackle industry does need a bit of a shake up. Had it there way for to long.
Anyway... a lead clips a lead clip.. a kickers a kicker.. etc, etc..
Bite alarms and reels a diffrent animal. Have these so called cheaper versions of the more expensive same things. Actually be compared side by side. They might look the same feel the same. But have they been opened up. Examined in depth.. because when they start seezing up or not bleeping when you want them to. Customers ain't running back to Temu. Worth considering.

I was curious so took a quick look. A couple of my immediate observations…
1) the items on the nocarptax website are already easily found on TEMU… for example search for leadcore or headtorch - the first results that come up are those on the nocarptax site.
2) when clicking the links on the nocarptax site, I experience several pop-up windows which make the process more time consuming than just staying on TEMU and browsing. I tried this from my phone which is where I’d do my online ordering, not sure about from other devices
Fair enough the nocarptax site might have some gems on there but I think most items can be found easily yourself just by browsing TEMU and reading the reviews.

A race to the bottom
Whatever any of us do for a living, service, manufacture or sell, and now imagine you can buy that in for 75% less. From the Far East, that has absolutely no interest, development or tax liabilities in this great country of ours?
Imagine yourself snivelling in the pub, telling your mates that the roofs you lay are a skill and the Temu versions not as good quality, or that chainsaw you use for your tree business cost thousands more £ and the start ups have no skills and knowledge so are a fraction of the price. That would be ok would it?
A far away communist country that is on the road to global domination, leaving the development, innovation, marketing and engineering to the west because there in no profit in this bit only overhead.
This guy is trying to make a name for himself and a living because he was turned away from trying to do what he now says he hates - like a born again evangelist- how sweet.
For years we’ve all know about a few money saving ideas, discovered items that have just been rebadged, but to give this bloke airtime and for him to pretend he is shaking up the industry is a joke. Hopefully in a few weeks it will die down and his ego will abate, maybe if he’s lucky he will see his local tackle shop close down, or his local water be full of novices with £80 bait boats and echo sounders.
He hasn’t found a loop hole in fishing - this is life now, next day on Amazon or a couple of weeks for a £10 circular saw from Temu.
Moneys tight - I get it - but don’t slag off an industry for charging £6 for hooks that are available in a tackle shop - yes they may be the same, but they developed the pattern, tested them, marketed them, gave away loads to get them out there, paid tax and importation, gave the shop a healthy margin for their staff, who in turn help show how to use them, where and when.
Whatever I think of big companies, I understand overheads, and think Ali has probably done more damage than this chancer has. He is rebadging the entire Temu catalogue almost out of spite for his Korda demise. Say what you want about Fairbrass, but he’s super smart and a good judge - he doesn’t release crap, he develops, and we’ve almost done a full loop back to when Penning smashed up the NGT stand.
There’s a Cotswold cool bag thread running on here, and the feedback from users and Rob is a credit - all this grifter has to do is send one off to the Far East and two weeks later will have the copies back and a minimum order - that’s ok is it? Not for me.

Tackle companies are a joke nowadays. I've found Fox to be one of the worst culprits. Everyone remembers the maple fire pans scam that came out some years ago. They didn't even try to hide the fact it was another companies product with a 50% markup on the original price. Since then they've copied so many other companies, the latest being their new landing nets, a blatant copy from Fencl.
I try to buy from either local shops or 2nd hand nowadays. Not paying the ridiculous mark up tackle companies charge. Be glad when a few go out of business.

You can see in his previous videos he uses Shimano ultegra ci4 if I remember correctly fortis snugpak sj9 Nash indulgence bed vass waders a power barrow etc. Personally I would rather help support local shops and the people that work there.
I just find it funny all this came about in the month or so before his bait company went live and now he's selling it for £16 a kilo or 10kg for £130. Good marketing to be fair but not for me

You hit the nail on the head here.
I don’t think anyone minds paying a little extra to support a UK business and UK jobs because we understand the overheads involved with running a business.
The big issue here is when a company takes a generic product and then changes the colour and puts their brand on it but increases the price to unacceptable levels. Otherwise known as unfair trading.
A 15 litre green plastic bucket costs £5. If you try and charge £11+ for it that is carp tax.
The industry is digging a big hole for itself because by copying everyone else’s products and trying to sell them as a new innovation at overinflated prices the only thing they’re doing is damaging their brand and reputation.

My understanding of "Carp Tax" is where you can buy the same product for less money but without the branding. Take the gizmo that allows you to get the dregs out of a gas bottle into another fuller one. Solar Gas Link Valve £24.99 same thing on Amazon £7.99 That's Carp Tax!!

Ricci Connolly on the Korda podcast this week summarises well the value tackle shops bring beyond just product on a shelf - they're a hub of local knowledge, advice and community. I totally get people wanting to save costs and there are lots of examples of product with an unnecessary carp tax applied but that's where community (and this forum included) helps other anglers save - not through monetised links.
